ظهر فيها و انارت كم هي مهيبة العلامة التي رأيت

Mar Jacob was a poet and a great theologian who came in the second place after St. Ephrem of Syriac, corresponding to Mar Nersai, He was known as the flute of the spirit.
In the year 519, he became a bishop in the main city of the region in the city of Batnan Saruj. Mar Yaqoub the Saruj wrote many poems, some of which were translated and printed, and another large section was kept in the ecclesial liturgical books.
In his poem, he mentions the birth of Jesus Christ, the departure of a person from Athor (Assyria) and coming to the Athoraue (Assyrians) to tell them about the birth of Jesus Christ and the meeting of the Assyrian wisemen for knowing of the birth of the holy King Jesus Christ:
He arrived crazily afraid the son of darkness
Shivery, tremulous and full of bad movements and news
He said to them now I came out of Athor (Assyria)
Where I saw a marvel not as usual
A great star is not like its light in space
It appeared and illuminated how majestic the sign that I saw
The wise men of the Athoraye (Assyrians) gathered together
And they said that in Jews there appeared a king that solves the magic
