The Doctrine of Mār Addai is by far one of the most important early Christian writings that was composed between ca. 300-400 AD. The text as it is preserved recites the 1st century AD story of King Abgar of Edessa, the story of Mār Addai the Apostle and the Christianisation of Mesopotamia. According to the text, the Âthôrâyê ('Assyrians') who are mentioned on a number of occasions were among the first nations that embraced the newly founded faith— Christianity. This incredible manuscript, in my view is a national treasure. The original manuscript is held in the Russian National Library and for the first time since the early 19th century (since it was first translated into English) this page is now being made public. The Doctrine of Mār Addai is one of many early Christian writings where the Assyrians are mentioned. It is my intention to publicise more of these sources online so that our Assyrian nation can learn of our origins and never doubt their identity. One of the greatest challenges our nation faces today is the historical revisionists who are attempting to erase the Assyrians from the pages of history. The Doctrine of Mār Addai is one of many that debunks the anti-Assyrian movement. #Assyrians #Assyria #Athoraye #Athor #Assuraye #Suraye
