Dear Visa Applicant,
We are contacting you in connection to your Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) application. As announced at the inception of the program, the Iraqi SIV program is scheduled to end on September 30, 2013. The Department of State has been working with its interagency partners and interested members of Congress to extend our authority beyond September 30 to allow for the issuance of SIVs after that date. However, under current legislation, our authority to issue SIVs to eligible individuals who have been employed by or on behalf of the U.S. government in Iraq ends on September 30, 2013.
We are pleased to inform you that until the September 30 deadline, we may proceed with SIV applications without updated police certificates for applicants whose current document is expired. If we have previously asked you to provide update police certificates, you may disregard that request and provide us with any other outstanding items necessary to proceed with your application.
If your case is undergoing additional administrative processing, this must be concluded before a final determination can be made on your SIV application. We would like to assure you that we are making every effort to complete this administrative processing as quickly as possible, in accordance with U.S. laws and regulations. Please note however, that your medical exam has a limited validity of twelve months (unless specifically limited by the panel physician because of an ongoing medical issue). If you are aware that your medical exam is now expired, we urge you to consider renewal at this time to facilitate the conclusion of your case before the September 30 deadline. We can not issue any immigrant visa for a case that lacks the documentation required by law and regulations.
In order to renew your medical exam, please refer to the instructions shown below, which explain how to schedule an appointment with one of our two panel physician clinics authorized to perform medical examinations for immigration purposes.
Should you obtain updated documents, please mail them to our office at the following address:
U.S. Embassy
Attention: Immigrant Visa Unit
Al Kindi Street
International Zone
Baghdad, Iraq
Finally, if you are currently in possession of your passport, we ask you to be prepared to send it to us as soon as possible after we make that request. If you choose to send your passport to us with your renewed documents, please note that we will be unable to return it to you until a visa is issued or after the September 30, 2013 deadline.
If you have any questions, please contact us via our online inquiry form at:

Sincerely,
Immigrant Visa Unit
